Treadmill workout safety precautions

A treadmill workout is one of the best exercise routines because it works out the entire body. The problem is that doing it wrong can cause injury to certain parts of the body. That being said, there are a few precautions that can be followed with each treadmill workout to prevent injury. They include:

• Take time to warm up – You have to do a few stretching exercises before starting the treadmill workout. Do this by alternating between standing on the balls of your feet and your heels. You could then walk around for a few minutes to prepare your muscles for the workout.

• Start slowly – This is an important step in every treadmill workout for both beginners and experienced runners. Start running slowly and then increase the speed and intensity as time goes by. This will allow your whole body to get used to the exercise routines. This means that you should keep a treadmill workout schedule.

• Hydrate – A treadmill workout does not entail going outside meaning that your body will lose less water. Whatever the case, you must have a lot of water at hand and keep drinking it during the workout. Dehydrating your body can cause faintness and unnecessary strain.

• Aerate – Make sure that there is adequate air circulation in the room you are performing your treadmill workout in. Muscles usually need a lot of oxygen to function optimally during a workout.

• Cool down after the workout – It is important to take a few minutes to cool down after the treadmill workout. This allows the muscles to relax and therefore prevent cramps and twists.

Apart from the above precautions taken before and after the treadmill workout, there are a few other things to consider when using the treadmill. They include:

• Incorporate speed intervals – An ideal treadmill workout should include periods of intense running, jogging and walking. These should be in five to ten minute intervals depending on the experience you have with treadmills. This strengthens the muscles and helps you adapt more easily.

• Add incline intervals – A treadmill workout should simulate an outdoor run. This means you should incorporate various inclines in the workout. Some treadmills have an option where you can set the inclines automatically and start your workout. Having inclines in your workout will help increase your strength and stamina.

• Take advantage of safety features – It is important to use inbuilt safety features to avoid injury during the treadmill workout. For instance, there are safety keys that prevent clothing articles from getting jammed in the moving parts.

• Health problems – You have to be careful in your treadmill workout if you have skeletal problems. Your workouts have to be Very Light if you are experiencing hip problems, joint pains etc. There are different treadmill workout techniques for unhealthy people so make sure you contact a trained professional before starting any exercise regime.

• Dizziness – Some people usually complain of dizziness when incorporating a treadmill workout in their exercise regime. If this happens to you, stop the exercise and cool off. It might be a good idea to see a doctor if this happens on a regular basis.

A treadmill workout can do wonders in your bid to stay fit but make sure you incorporate the above precautions to prevent permanent injury.
